Mi Casa Es Su Casa

Barack Obama:

President Obama showed little patience for a protester who interrupted him at a White House Pride Month reception on Wednesday, immediately waving a finger and scolding, “Nonononononononono, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.”

Listen, you’re in my house,” said the president to cheers and applause. “You’re not gonna get a good response from interrupting me like this.”

“Shame on you,” Obama added before having the heckler removed by White House personnel.

Michelle Obama:

This is really what the White House is all about. It’s the “People’s House.”

whitehouse.gov:

The White House is known as “The People’s House”…

whitehouse.gov:

President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are committed to opening the doors of the White House and truly making it the People’s House.

An entirely appropriate response: the people’s house is also his house and he presides.

The problem, which was apparently too subtle for you, is the contradictions that Core points out.

Just another example of Obama’s Most Transparent Administration Ever™.

Respectfully disagree, Mr. Thomas. The First Family has their private quarters withn the White House. The White House is not Mr. Obama’s personal residence. It may be where he resides as POTUS, but it is not his house.

Of course there’s a difference between the private section and the public section of the White House, but the president, appropriately, presides in the public section.

When standing between a man and his paycheck, expect this response.

Yes. How dare he presume to expect the respect of the held office.

This is exactly the kind of argument our founding fathers were trying to PREVENT by giving the office the title of “President”. That’s what they were trying to prevent by declaring there would be no class of nobility in this nation. He’s not special; he’s just another guy like you or me.

Funny how important that principle became once *he* got into office though. If you’re seriously arguing that *every* President gets treated the same I’m not sure we’re having an honest discussion here.

I wish he had implemented that righteous indignation to the standard of decency in respecting the presence of the voice in our State of the Union, when he was interrupted and called a liar, and where was the guards for the Congressman to be escorted out of the gathering? Regardless of the notion of the imperial Mi Casa allowing any public civil discourses to trample on human dignity without a response is nonsensical and a stupidity by any leader. Where was the risk taking in trampling on a protester in the People’s House? Unfortunately President Obama is a very late bloomer in the American Rose Garden of cordial hypocrisy in Washington D.C. House of Cards. I wonder how much of this reactionary manner in emotions is now the frustration of becoming a lame duck in political conversations. Once the TPP fast track legislation is done he has earned his new career position Internationally and the Republicans are in full control of running the future show. This episode is hardly worth commenting on in my assessment.

More and more I appreciate the 22nd Amendment.

    • Glenn June 28, 2015 at 12:07 pm | #

The reactionary 22nd Amendment insures that the executive’s policies will be immune to democratic influence.

It came into effect to prevent the people’s interests from impeding and infringing upon the interests of the ruling class, they being those who can write policy into law that our elected legislators are not allowed to read and discuss, even among themselves, much less with the public that will have them enforced upon them. See the TPP.

The 22nd Amendment prevents a slowly awakening people from giving a sound repudiation to the executive whose policies are not in conformity with the means by which they were sold to them.

Obama says the White House is his house. Others say the White House is the People’s house.

There is no contradiction here when “Obama” and the “People” are accepted as two different names describing the same conceptual object.

The People act on the belief that their sovereignty is rightly surrendered under law to the single unitary executive sovereign by means of election. This is true to the extent that the People believe it is true. And the People are subordinate to the Unitary Executive to the extent that they act in accordance with this belief, both in the administration of, and acceptance of structural violence.

The essence of authoritarian power structure is on display here for those who wish to see it.
