What Every Reporter Should Be Asking John Kerry Between Now and April 18

US Secretary of State John Kerry, April 18, 2013:

I believe the window for a two-state solution is shutting. I think we have some period of time – a year to year-and-a-half to two years, or it’s over. (h/t Yousef Munayyer)

Between now and April 18, every single reporter should be asking Kerry how much closer Israel and Palestine are to reaching a two-state solution, and what the US will do differently if, as seems likely, it reaches the date when by his own word the window for achieving such a solution has permanently closed.

Can we call this a Kerry Unit, in honor of Thomas Friedman’s 6-month periods?

If the two-state solution dies, we won’t get a one-state solution with democracy and equality and happy times for all. We’ll get what we have now: a bleak, colonial apartheid one-state “solution” with beatings, torture, repression, settlements, annexation, blockades, and bombings. But, if the two-state solution is closed, it will last forever, or until the last Palestinian decides to pack up and move to Jordan.

Be careful what you wish for.

I should clarify:”We” won’t get that outcome. The Palestinians will.

Personally I believe the entire world is sick and tired of this conversation seeing children throwing rocks at tanks. This entire middle-east Breakdown is nothing but a dysfunctional fragmented family squabble based in ideological belief systems since the 1950’s. The entire fixation on narrow minded self importance is based on a mistake observer ideological error between Jews, Christians and Moslems over who has the upper hand on the boys playground. They are all descending form Abraham and this story is nonsensical insanity based in power force killing familial relations.

What all of them should be concerned about is water, food and feeding future generations in a desert where oil is coming to an end. How to use their ingenuity as a family of man turning a desert into a blooming Oasis. Instead they waste the world’s attention by bickering like spoiled arrested immature adolescent children claiming special dispensations as chosen elite tribal people(s) in the name of god. I doubt this god of theirs even cares they continue to exist in the future. This is humiliating as a westerner to even observe my entire life. It’s lie you want to grab them by their feet turn everyone upside down and shake the nonsense out of them. I am indignant with the power of tanks, endless billions of bullets and nuclear mass destruction as they banter their special elitist children of god nonsense while denying the breakdown in familial relations with each other. Grow up and get over you petty bullsh$t! The world around you has had a enough of it to last for all eternity.

Maybe the real question to ask is how long before cynical politicians in America stop pretending a two state solution is any longer possible. The Israeli leadership is openly dead set against it and this policy has been a reliable way for a neoliberal party to remain in control. You can always appeal to hate more profitably than love of mankind.

But to change it slightly to fit the moment: “Occupation now, occupation tomorrow, occupation FOREVER!”
