Adjunct Positions at Brooklyn College

Now that I’m chair of the political science department, I have the dubious privilege of hiring adjunct instructors to teach some of our courses. I say dubious privilege because the use and abuse of adjuncts in higher education, especially at CUNY, is a scandal. In our department, we do our best to make it not such a scandal–our classes are small, we push for the highest rates possible, we try to minimize uncertainty — but that’s just putting lipstick on a pig.

Anyway, here are the positions that we have available in political science.

Undergraduate Courses

1. The American Presidency, Thursday, 6:05-8:35 pm

2. The Politics of Incarceration, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:40-5:20

3. Moot Court, Friday, 9:30-12 pm

4. Writing on Comparative Politics, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:40-5:20

5. Introduction to Politics, Thursday, 6:05-8:35

6. Introduction to American Government, Mondays and Wednesdays, 2:15-3:55

MA Courses

7. Government and Urban Politics of NYC, Thursdays, 8 pm-9:40

Other

8. Introduction to Politics, Mondays, 2:15-4:45. This class is run out of the political science department, but it is taught at a College Now partner high school in Bushwick. Students are juniors and seniors in high school who have specially applied to be in the class. College Now is a collaborative initiative of CUNY and the New York City Department of Education. Its primary goal is to improve the academic achievement of the city’s public high school students and to ensure that graduating students are ready to do college-level work.

My daughter just applied for Brooklyn College. Out of the blue. Have no idea why. She’s a professional level dancer with a passion for history. Perhaps it will work out. She’s at SF State right now.

I wish you had some online positions for teaching history. Despite what some may think teaching undergraduate history online is very possible and can be done quite well. It all comes down to the teacher.

      @Jimmy Dick
Your comment is a complete non-sequitur since (in addition to being in pol sci) these are *not* online courses, as a reading of the post should have made clear to you.

Where in my post did I suggest that the positions that Corey had available were anything other than political science or were online?

I once applied to teach at Berkley Law School.

I listed my under my qualifications that “Anything Yoo can do I can do better.”

Sadly, Berkley didn’t recognize talent when they saw it.
