On Democracy Now!

I was on Democracy Now! this morning, talking about Paul Ryan’s retirement, the fate of conservatism, and the teachers’ strikes across the country. My segment starts at the 39 minute mark.

I think we can all agree that the Teachers strikes is music to our ears and one of the most positive developments in years. It’s also getting to the point where there is some positive press, as you pointed out earlier Corey.

My question has to do with the “new” right. Strange things have been happening lately: last night I saw Tucker Carlson run an anti-war segment. It was brutal and I agreed with every word of it. Yes, I am aware that Nationalists are not anti-war for the right reasons (Greenwald wrote a great article about Trump rhetoric last year), but this is an amazing thing to watch. I doubt he will run a positive teacher’s strike segment, but this is what I would call a major development in terms of media narrative from of all places- Fox news.

Is it time to confront corporate Dems and make alliances with the Tucker Carlson types? Can we support trade tariffs? Can we reach an olive branch to Rand Paul types in terms of anti-interventionism? I see intersection on many issues- yet when I propose this to my fellow progressives it does not go over well.

Are these groups worse than the corporate dems and neocons / government dismantlers (aka Paula Ryan?).

But bumper music from The Ocean Blue (I guess that was a “blue wave” tie-in? but I’ll take it) starts at minute 35.
